The guy should at least have a stable job that ensures a monthly income. It may be too early to start thinking about marriage and living together, but no one wants to have another mouth to feed. It is a harsh way to think, but when the bills pile up this kind of thinking will be beneficial.
Another way of viewing it is through the availability of funds. If he is unable to even take care of his own needs, then how can he be responsible enough to take care of his significant other? Guys are also perennial liars. They see lying as easier than saying the truth. A guy can be considered a keeper if he keeps to the facts as much as he can. Lying once in a while is okay. Everybody does that, but perennial lying is bad.
